Nature in High Definition.
Hello, I am Rebecca Alexander, an artist who loves to combine the beauty of oil paints with the beauty of the natural world. Welcome to my virtual gallery, where you can both view my completed oil paintings and follow the progress of my current piece via my blog.

What defines my art.
Fine Detail

An average painting requires appx. 90 minutes painting time per square inch to complete, often using brushes with tips only a few hairs thick. From measuring and laying in the first rough sketch to the final shading and texture, I take my time. I also use only my own photographs for reference, so many additional hours are spent outdoors with my camera.
Bold Colors

I like to take the colors of nature and enhance them, just a little, to allow people who view my work to see the world the way I do. Like a good stain accentuates the beautiful, natural grain of wood, I aim to make my colors accent the beauty of the natural world in the hopes people will not only see the world in my work, but feel it as well.
Lifelike Form

I pay special attention to the finer points of form for all of my subjects, the things the subconscious mind will notice as being “off” even when the conscious mind isn’t quite sure why. From the natural grain in the bone of a deer’s antler to the way the skin and fur rumples on a puppy’s brow, I try to represent the things I paint as realistically as possible.
